Caio Fonseca

Caio Fonseca is an American painter born in New York in 1959.

Son of the Uruguayan sculptor Gonzalo Fonseca, Caio lived for a few years Barcelona and later in Pietrasanta where he still owns a personal studio.

An abstract painter, he says his work is the result of a close correlation between art and music, his paintings seek to give form to the unseen, in line with masters of Modernism like Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian. He wants to reveal what he believes is a timeless, universal harmony and order present beneath the surface of our everyday, perceivable surroundings.

His work is part of the collections of illustrious institutions such as the MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and in the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

He lives and works in New York.
